What’s Gonna Become Of Me?

A couple of years ago three guys from my peer group all left their wives and kids for new lives elsewhere. All separate incidents, but in all three the common denominator was the children involved – all being left and ignored for the sake of a bit of freedom. That pissed me off, but this song came from it. Written from the kids point of view and with an old-timey feel, the refrains feature Class 4 of Milverton School in Somerset. And what a great job they did!

What’s Gonna Become of me?

Now you’re at the crossroads

You know which way to go it’s plain to see

There’s an easier road on your horizon

But what’s gonna become of me?

Sometimes the road’s been rocky

Sometimes the hills were steep

But as you roll on down the other side

What’s gonna become of me?

I thought you brought me here to share

All the things there were to see

But as you lay down your burdon and your cares

What’s gonna become of me?

Oh me, oh my – What’s gonna become of me?

Oh me, oh my – What’s gonna become of me?

Shining like a beacon

Lighting up the way for me to see

But now you’re leaving and I’m on my own

What’s gonna become of me?

Will you be there to catch me if I fall?

Will you ever be there at all?

As you pack up your troubles and you break free

What’s gonna become of me?

Oh me, oh my – What’s gonna become of me?

Oh me, oh my – What’s gonna become of me?
